Model Platform

The research activities will be organised in six closely linked work packages (WPs). All project coordination and dissemination will be carried out in WP0. WPs 3-5 focus on providing information and models needed to assess biogas production, environmental benefits and costs associated with each unit of the management chain. Information from these will be integrated and validated on existing biogas plants in WP2 and then fed into a dynamic value chain model in WP1. There will thus be a flow of knowledge within the project. Interactions between WPs in the project will take place though continuous development of the generic integrated model (WP2), which the partners will start to develop early in the inception phase of the project. WP3 and WP4 will build on experimental work, providing large databases of information about biomass characteristics, which will be used in the development of analytical procedures and mechanistic and statistical algorithms for use in the models.

Validation and implementation of the model calculations will be carried out using data from two biogas producers that utilise very different feedstocks in their digesters. The validation will use management data, analysis of waste composition and biogas production data.
